I2C Test Device I²C Scan, Power, Read/Write

All-in-one I2C tester with 3.3V/5V or external power, scan, ACK/NACK check, register read/write, diagnostics, recovery and live read.

Product Description

The I2C Test Device is a compact standalone tool for developing, testing and troubleshooting I2C hardware without needing a PC. It combines target power control, bus diagnostics, device scanning and register access in one handheld unit with an OLED display and rotary encoder interface.

It is designed for makers, embedded developers, repair work, prototyping and lab use whenever quick I2C validation is needed directly on the bench.

Main features:

  • Switchable target output: OFF / 3.3V / 5V
  • Built-in voltage measurement of the connected target
  • Protection against external voltage conflicts
  • Overvoltage detection
  • Short-circuit detection with automatic output shutdown
  • I2C scan with pull-ups ON or OFF
  • Single scan or auto scan mode
  • Device list for detected I2C addresses
  • Manual device address entry for devices not currently found by scan
  • ACK/NACK address check
  • Register read function
  • Register write function
  • Read modes for burst read and single-register stepping
  • One-shot read or continuous live read
  • Bus diagnosis for stuck SDA/SCL detection
  • 9-clock bus recovery
  • Adjustable I2C clock speed: 10 kHz / 50 kHz / 100 kHz / 400 kHz
  • Voltage calibration mode
  • Factory reset
  • OLED user interface with rotary encoder control
  • Built-in Pong screensaver for idle mode

What it can do

This tool lets you power an I2C target directly from the tester, scan the bus for active devices, manually select an address, verify whether a device responds, read registers, write registers and continuously monitor changing register values. It can also help diagnose a blocked bus, detect stuck lines and attempt recovery using a 9-clock release sequence.

Because target voltage is monitored continuously, the device can also prevent unsafe conditions such as applying internal power while external voltage is already present.

Typical use cases

  • Bring-up of new I2C boards
  • Sensor evaluation
  • Register inspection during firmware development
  • Verifying device addresses and bus response
  • Checking unknown or partially documented I2C modules
  • Troubleshooting stuck or unstable I2C buses
  • Bench testing without a computer

User interface

Operation is done entirely from the onboard display and encoder, so the tester is used as a self-contained bench tool.

If you have any questions about the available features or general queries regarding the device, please feel free to contact us at any time.

The package only includes the I2C-Testdevice. A USB-C cable and a power adapter are also required for operation and are not included!
